This painting describes not only the specific encounter between a great-grandfather, who lost his entire family in the Holocaust, and the young great-grandchild, but the metaphor for the miraculous continuity of the Jewish people throughout all the generations, in spite of the pain, the loss, the pogroms and the Holocaust, always under the supervision of the Creator.
