This painting  is a metaphor for human life. When an object falls into the water, it first drowns, and then the water causes it to lift up. So too in human life, sometimes we "drown in the sea of life". It is our overactivity that causes us to drown.Only if we learn how to release control, and be in faith, only then we will begin to rise to the top. 

The objects painted here, like the telephone, the shoes – characterize a woman's activity in the contemporary world, the running, the tension, the pressure. The objects drown in the water. The light feather, however,  which represents the release, the belief in God, floats easily above the water. If we were to release and just believe that someone would lift us, then we would not be drowning in the "Sea of Life". The secret of life is to “Release and Be Raised”
